Family portraits can be done in a variety of ways but here are a few suggestions. For full families (parents, children and grand children) it looks best when everybody has a similar color scheme. For each individual family from the full family, we suggest wearing colors different than the full family photos but maintain a similarity so you look like a family. Earth tones work great for outdoor photos and most solid colors work well indoors. Khaki or black dress pants and jeans work great but make sure everyone matches. Shoes should be solid brown or black for best results. Tops should be solid, avoid prints, patterns, logos, stripes and bright colors. No hats...The outdoor photos call for casual clothing and even sports apparel, sandals, bare feet etc. Men can wear one color top while women wear another but make sure each man or woman has a similar shade of the colors they choose.
Most of the time, we try to take the photos that include infants first as they are quick to lose patience. We normally do the full family photos first and then do the smaller, individual families. Studio sessions are done first (unless we are racing against the weather) and then we move outdoors for the casual photos. We have changing rooms where you can touch up your makeup and hair. We have a media room to keep everyone entertained while they are waiting. Most family sessions take between and hour and a half to two hours. Location shoots generally take half the time to shoot as they are done in one location but the set up time can take up to a half an hour. Please be ready to start at the time that you are scheduled to start.
